Comment Crawler
You always intend to read just one comment. Somehow, though, that one always has a long history. Start tracing it, and you enter an infinitely-branching maze. The maze is filled with fiery traps, gluttonous trolls and a few brave heroes hacking through. You feel compelled to follow your favorite hero, vicariously battling his foes and grasping for glory. When you leave the dungeon, you are drained. You wish you'd never entered.
Then a new comment catches your attention.
I found some good news: the state of comment threads may be improving. Go here to read about it.

Firsty, an excellent and very vivid post. I'm impressed, because I've done that before.
ReplyDeleteI've actually always found it apt to consider the internet the next frontier. Over and over, in small bubbles, communities work out how to live together in the same web space, what to value, what to discard. Communities get in squabbles with or join forces with other communities. Trolls and spambots are the new bandits and wolves. Learning to moderate comment threads is just another step in settling the Internet frontier.
May your comments thread be as long and labyrinthine as you described!
Very true haha
